  14. THE TERADATA ADAPTOR FOR THE NEXT DATABASE KIT

  16. EL SEGUNDO, Calif., August 20, 1993 -- NCR Professional Services
  17. Division is pleased to announce the latest version of the Database
  18. Kit Adaptor for the NEXTSTEP Object-Oriented development
  19. environment.  With the Teradata Adaptor for the NeXT Database Kit,
  20. NEXTSTEP users gain access to the Teradata relational database
  21. management system and to the hundreds of gigabytes of data that can
  22. be stored in it.

  24. The Teradata Adaptor works in conjunction with the NeXT
  25. Database Kit, a graphical object-oriented facility that allows the
  26. creation and execution of database queries via a "point and click"
  27. interface.  The adaptor translates data source-independent queries
  28. into the specific query function calls for the Terdata Database,
  29. submits them, and packages the results into data source-independent
  30. objects.  Through the use of the adaptor, NEXTSTEP users with no
  31. knowledge of the Teradata Database or its syntax requirements can
  32. develop object-oriented database applications complete with an easy
  33. to use graphical user interface(GUI).  The Teradata Adaptor
  34. requires an NCR DBC/1012 computer with a LAN connection or an NCR
  35. System 3600 computer with Teradata Database support.

  38. In addition to the Teradata Adaptor, a suite of lower-level
  39. query tools and libraries are included.  BTEQ, a command-line
  40. oriented SQL query tool is provided to allow sophisticated database
  41. users access to the "guts" of a query to perform tuning and
  42. administration functions not directly available through the DBKit
  43. interface.  The FastLoad facility provides a tool for rapidly
  44. loading large amounts of data from the NeXT workstation into the
  45. Teradata Database, fully utilizing the capability of the Teradata
  46. Database engine to distribute work across all the processors in the
  47. database server. Also, to allow for more conventional application
  48. development, a Call-Level Interface (CLI) library of C subroutine
  49. calls is also provided.

  52. The Teradata Adaptor for the NeXT Database Kit is available
  53. immediately for both the NeXT Motorola-based environment, and for
  54. NEXTSTEP running on Intel-based 80486 and Pentium computers.  Both
  55. single and multiple license packages along with a demo version of
  56. the adaptor are available.
